Weekly News April 19th
Monday we started the day with our printing practice at the carpet. Many of the students are excited about forming their letters the right way and are proud to show how they can do it! We took our snacks with us to the woods after we finished the calendar routine. Everyone was excited about the adventuring we did. We went further along the trail than we have before and ran into a few dead ends. Some students thought we should try and find our way to the lake but we didn't make it this time. If anyone has experience with the trails to the lake I'd appreciate some guidance so we can explore again with some hope of success!
Tuesday morning before Fine Arts we noticed that there was a big machine down by the lower playground. After Fine Arts we went outside for a play on the upper playground and before we came in we went down to investigate the big machine. We found that it had dug out a square near the lower playground and the workmen told us that they were building a sandbox! The students noticed that they had used red paint to mark on the grass where they needed to dig. We watched the progress of the sandbox through the rest of the day from our window. For work time we completed the number 5 page and had some discussion about what we wondered about oviparous animals. In the afternoon we had a special guest join us for library and centres. My daughter Joisan came for a visit and was very excited to get to know the students. She particularly enjoyed playing with them during centres time and was very impressed by their skills during cleanup!
Wednesday Mrs. Scargill was the guest teacher while I was away. She and Ms. Mousseau took the students to the alley for a walk where she was surprised by the dedication to engineering that our students showed. While they were out walking, a former Crofton parent dropped off some more eggs for us to incubate. They look a bit different from our first batch and we're looking forward to doing a comparison activity next week. After snack they worked on a directed drawing lesson all together in our classroom. Ms. Mousseau led the lesson on how to draw a bunny. During centres time in the afternoon students painted the backgrounds to mount the bunny drawings on.
Because Thursday was an early dismissal day we quickly did our work (BFF's, Math and W page - what we wonder about oviparous animals) and then went straight to centres. Savannah brought in a piece of an eggshell that she found outside on her way to school. She told us that it's a robin's egg and showed us how small it is - much smaller than our eggs in the incubator. During centres time we had a closer look at the eggs with the candling light and we could see veins in some of them that mean there is something growing inside! There are lots of guesses about what could be inside the eggs. Some of the guesses are up on the wall near the incubator - please pop in and see them!
Friday was a holiday and everyone was very excited about the Easter weekend. I hope all of you have a lovely weekend and a very Happy Easter!
I know there are at least a few people who have been having some challenges with FreshGrade not showing the most recent posts (mostly those since Jan/Feb). I'm working to resolve the problem and expect to hear back from my contact at the company by the end of next week. I'm hopeful that it's just a glitch and that I won't have to re-enter everything again but at the moment it shows as being there on my teacher page and not on the parents page for some reason. I'll let you know when it has been resolved.
NEXT WEEK - April 22nd - 26th
Monday - Easter Monday - no school
Tuesday - Library Day
- Parent-Child Mother Goose - preschool program in the library from 9am - 10am
