Weekly News December 21st
It's a bit of a challenge to give a daily blow-by-blow this week as we were all about the concert pretty much all the time. If we weren't practicing as a group, I was working with the actors and Ms. Wood to get everything sorted and organized and ready. Mrs. Thomas (the resource teacher) was with the class when I couldn't be.
We were hit by a terrible plague this week and most days we were down by 5 or 6 students. I sure hope that the two week break gives everyone a chance to catch up on sleep (me included!) and kick whatever bugs are hanging on! Naps - real naps - were a thing this week as I had several students actually fall asleep on the carpet and a few even slept right through the chaos of centres around them!
Miss Julie, the librarian, came and read to us in our classroom this week. Students who brought their books back will be bringing a new book home in January as Miss Julie was concerned about the books going missing over the holiday.
Sometime on Wednesday someone got busy in the house centre with some writing utensils - there were pictures drawn on the furniture :( I haven't discovered who it was yet (it was a busy week) but if you hear of anything from your children I'd like to know who should help me clean it in the new year.
Thursday was an odd day because it wasn't raining but we had to have an inside day because of the wind. It was blowing so hard that there were things coming off the roof and large structures were blowing across the road! It got even more exciting when the power went out during our inside recess. We ate together in Miss Mousseau's room and most students were picked up early once we knew that the afternoon concert was cancelled. Unfortunately, with no end to the power outage in sight we did not have any choice but to cancel the evening performance as well.
After school the teachers met and agreed that we will be rescheduling the concert for the first week back from the break. It will still happen twice - 1pm and 6:30pm. The new date is Thursday, January 10th. We will be focusing on remembering our songs and how to get on and off the stage that week!
Friday we were one of the schools in the district that still had no power so our school was closed - an extra long Christmas break for us! We missed getting to do PJ day and decorate the trees day though so we will do both on the first day back! Students can bring a stuffy and wear pj's and we will decorate our sugar cone trees in the afternoon. Anyone who hasn't brought in candy can do so that day please!
There will be an awesome Lego Club starting in the New Year - organized by one of the moms from Ms. Mousseau's class. It will be on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month (it actually starts January 3rd - the week before we're back at school!) and it will be in the basement of the Crofton Community Centre on Musgrave Street from 3:30-4:30. Please mark your calendars! Parents will be required to be in attendance - this is not a drop-off program.
We will continue to walk in all weather - please make sure your child has appropriate footwear and clothing.
