Weekly News June 28th
We were trying to keep everything as routine as possible this week so we started the morning on Monday with some printing practice. We were going to be away all afternoon so we did centres in the morning. The people in the house centre made themselves a movie theatre setup and asked that I put on something to make it more authentic so we had Alphablocks on for a bit during the centres time. We came in at the kindie bell and got our stuff to head up toward the pool for our picnic and swim. We had a great time at the pool!
On Tuesday morning after fine arts we had a great play outside with Miss Melanie's class. For our work time after snack everyone helped with some sorting and organizing of the toy bins. I was very appreciative of the help and managed to get a few boxes packed for the move. During centres time there were some active teaching moments as several of the students got deep into playing at being the teacher and the students. It was awesome to see them so interested in emulating the calendar routine - they were skip counting and patterning! It was very cool!
Wednesday morning we did our calendar routine and then cleared out to make room for Mrs. Mitchell's Storytime with the new kindergarten students. We had a great long play in the woods and made it back just in time for lunch recess. We came in at the kindie bell again and headed up with Miss Melanie's class for our second swim. There were lots more adventurous people at the second swim - I spent most of my time keeping things clear for anyone who wanted to jump off the diving board. Mrs. Martin's class was with us and showed us some cool tricks!
Thank you to all those who joined us for our passage party on Thursday morning - and brought treats to share! The students were excited to show you their reflections and then to see the photos of their year in kindergarten! They were even more excited to dig into all the cupcakes! After our snack and visit time we headed down to the gym for the final assembly. We enjoyed the slideshow and we did a great job of singing the goodbye song to the grade 6's and 7's. We liked the music video the Grade 6's made to We Are the Champions and we really enjoyed the grade 7 dance performance! We had a few minutes after the assembly to play on the upper playground before heading down for lunch recess and afterwards there was just enough time to eat a quick lunch before gathering our things and saying goodbye.
I wish you all a lovely and restful summer! I have posted the slideshows on FreshGrade - you'll find the long slideshow under the "more" section of the post and your child's reflections and short slideshow in the main part of the post. Enjoy!
