Weekly News March 8th
Monday we had a member of the Crofton Fire Department join us to talk about fire safety. We learned how to stop - drop -and roll if our clothes ever catch on fire. We talked about putting a lid on a pot if something on the stove catches fire, and we also talked about keeping ourselves and others safe by not playing with matches or lighters. After talking in the classroom we got to go outside and look at the fire truck. We learned about how much water comes through the hose, and students were invited to climb up into the place where the fire fighters ride! We were outside already so we decided to head for a walk to the woods. We looked for where we had been building the dam to block the stream but there was no water there at all! On our way back through the alley we saw some definite signs of spring!
As soon as we finished Fine Arts we headed for the ocean. We didn't have as long as we usually do but it was long enough to eat our snack, collect some shells and spy some interesting things. We did very well walking back towards the school so we were able to spare a few minutes for a quick play at the park on our way back. We didn't choose new books in library because Miss Julie wanted everything to be in for an inventory before spring break. She did have a fun coding activity for us though so we used some special markers to code the Ozobots to move and dance and light up!
Wednesday morning after calendar and math we went for a quick play under the trees before the assembly. We were so excited to find out that we beat the reading goal and raised over $1500!!! Mrs. Calverley put on her flippers and snorkel and mask and we could tell that she felt really silly!
Thursday morning Melvin came for a quick visit to finish up our talk about sad feelings. He will come visit again after spring break to talk about some more emotions we have. Thursday we had family time with all of the kindergarten students together to talk about what brings us joy. We made a special page about what makes our hearts fill with happiness. They should make it up on the wall by the end of the first week back (I hope!)
Friday was a very exciting day because it was PJ day and 100's day! We did lots of fun activities with Ms. Mousseau and Miss Melanie's classes. We wrote about what we will be doing when we are 100 years old, made 100's day hats, necklaces, and capes, stacked 100 cups, built with 100 pieces of lego and some people jumped 100 times! In the afternoon we got to watch some older students perform a readers theatre of Puss In Boots for us - we really enjoyed it and made great connections to the story. During centres there were lots of people who chose to continue with some of the morning 100's day activities. It was a great day!
I sent home the March book order flyers on Friday. I will be submitting the order on the Tuesday we come back to school (March 26th) so please have any orders submitted to me either online or in the BFF's by Tuesday after school. Thanks!
I wish everyone a wonderful, safe and restful spring break and look forward to seeing how much everyone has grown after two weeks of fresh air and family fun!
